MINUTES OF THE BOSSIN COUSIN CLUB MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 30, 2007

Meeting called to order at around 7:55 p.m. The President welcomed the assembled family.

The meeting was called to order at 7:55 p.m., at the home of Anne and George Shermer. The President, Allan Bossin, welcomed the assembled family. People were still trying to figure out where Julie, Patrick and now Baby Yossi Amar (Gloria Shulman’s grandaughter, grandson-in-law and great-grandson) are. The discussion was interrupted by a new wave of arrivals (Freddy AND Shirley Grossman and others). After a brief time out for folks to resettle, the meeting continued.

David Tallan, the reluctant secretary, read the minutes from the October 2006 meeting.

Business arising from the minutes

Was money given to Bobby Bossin for the digitization project? Where is it at?
It is still in the indexing stage. Interest was expressed in getting the tapes back, now that they have been digitized.

Shayndel Tallan is looking at getting a copy of the group photo in order to identify people. It’s a big job. We should start with a roster of who was there. (Gil Goldstein wasn’t.) Once the identification is done, David Tallan offered to substitute it for the earlier picture on the website.

New business

Beverly Caswell,(Gil Goldstein’s wife) was welcomed into the Bossin family.

Presidency.
The Bossin Cousin Club is looking for a new president. David Tallan was nominated. David pointed out that he is currently serving as secretary which is bad enough. A suggestion was made to bring back Irv Tallan as secretary. Irv had difficuly hearing the suggestion and pled deafness.

Ellen Mervin and Lorne Bossin were then nominated as co-presidents. This nomination in absentia is the normal operating procedure but in a radical departure, Ellen was actually telephoned to discuss the nomination with her. An interesting conversation ensued. Ruthe Schipper Stated that a deal is possible “once we got beyond the swearing.”
Moved: THAT Ellen Mervin and Lorne Bossin be elected as co-presidents. CARRIED (1 opposed, 1 abstention) Allen Bossin will wish them luck. Ruthe was thanked.

Meetings.
This is the first meeting in about a year. There should be at least two (spring and fall). At the spring meeting, the Seder and the Picnic will be discussed. At the fall meeting, the Chanukah party will be discussed.

Picnic.
This was booked for 2008 because Shayndel Tallan asked. We should know that it is expensive (about $400).
Moved: THAT we should continue to have it at Boyd, preferably at Hillview, whatever the cost. CARRIED

Chanukah.
A social committee was struck, consisting of the newlyweds. A date was set: Sunday the 13th of January from 4-7. Beach Blast was proposed as a location, receiving an endorsement from Toby Tallan.

Finances.
We have $4,000. Should we make a hospital donation? We would not be giving enough to make a substantial difference. It was decided that we would continue to use the money for family related expenses such as: the picnic, videos, a ramp, the Chanukah party, etc.

Family News

Rebecca Saxe married Alan Adams, in Boston, yesterday.

This afternoon, there is a subsidiary Bossin Cousin Club meeting happening, in Israel. Miriam Mervin is meeting Gary Bossin who plays baseball near where Miriam goes to school. They are all doing well. TheY can have another subsidiary meeting in the spring.

Ellen Mervin is back after being in China for 6 weeks. It’s a culture shock. Chinese bathrooms were discussed at length. The end result was a suggestion to visit McDonalds.

Rick and Nili Bossin’s granddaughter, Sarah Bossin, daughter of Oren and Shani, is walking and gorgeous.

Tammy Lahn (Rose and Sid Bossin’s great-granddaughter, Gloria Wetzler’s grandneice) and family have moved to Alaska. Shirley Gold and family (all 15) were in Alaska, too.
And she didn’t take her cousin Shirley Grossman. Jean Goldstein was more discreet.

Shayndel Tallan adjourned the meeting at 8:35. Allen Bossin left promptly.

Ann Shermer re-opened the meeting at 8:42.

Len Richmond reports that the Kiever Shul has been completely re-wired and now has air conditioning and new plumbing (not like in China). It has been restored completely leaving the original front untouched. There are still difficulties getting a minyan. Is it time for women?

Gloria Wetzler’s mother, Rose Bossin, passed away in May

Shayndel Tallan adjourned the meeting at 8:35. Allen Bossin left promptly.

Respectfully submitted by David Tallan
